๐ผ First 90 Days on the Job โ week-by-week checklist
๐๏ธ Days 1โ14 โ Learn the map
- Write down names + roles of your team and the 5 people you'll interact with most
- Understand your KPIs โ ask your manager: "What does great look like at day 90?"
- Learn the tools, systems and approval chains (who signs what)
- Note office norms: timings, dress, meeting culture, lunch, communication channel (email vs WhatsApp)
- Set up a personal work-notes file: log every task, who assigned it, deadline, status
๐๏ธ Days 15โ45 โ First wins
- Deliver 2โ3 small tasks early and completely โ reliability beats brilliance at this stage
- Ask questions in batches, not one-by-one; write answers down (never ask the same thing twice)
- Find the "go-to" senior and build one honest relationship
- Understand your payslip: gross vs net, deductions, EOBI (you are entitled to EOBI registration after probation โ check with HR)
- Agree workload priorities with your manager weekly โ in writing (email/WhatsApp works)
๐๏ธ Days 46โ75 โ Own something
- Take end-to-end ownership of one task/process
- Suggest one small improvement โ bring a solution, not just a complaint
- Start documenting your work so leave/handover is possible
- Learn one skill your role needs that colleagues around you lack
๐๏ธ Days 76โ90 โ Prove the trend
- Prepare a 1-page summary: what you delivered, what you learned, what you'll own next
- Ask for feedback formally โ and thank people who gave you corrections early
- Probation review: agree next 90-day goals in writing
- Update your CV with real, numbered achievements from this quarter
Three rules that protect you at any Pakistani workplace: (1) get instructions in writing โ a polite "just confirming on chat what we agreed"; (2) never sign anything financial you haven't read twice; (3) keep your own dated copy of your appointment letter and every salary slip.
