π¨ Step-by-step: reporting cybercrime / online fraud in Pakistan
| β | Step | How |
| 1. Secure yourself first | Block the scammer, freeze the affected account (bank helpline), change passwords of the affected accounts, and if your SIM was hijacked visit the franchise with your CNIC. |
| 2. Collect evidence | Screenshots of chats/ads/profiles, transaction receipts (JazzCash/EasyPaisa/bank), dates & amounts, scammer's numbers/IBANs/links, your CNIC copy. |
| 3. File the complaint β online | Use the NCCIA complaint portal (start from the official website nccia.gov.pk β verify the current URL there). Fill the cybercrime complaint form, attach evidence, save the complaint number you receive. |
| 4. β¦or by helpline | Call the national cybercrime helpline 1991 for guidance (verify the current number on nccia.gov.pk). Note the date, time and name of whoever you speak to. |
| 5. β¦or in person | Take the same evidence to the nearest NCCIA / cybercrime complaint centre. Bring your original CNIC. |
| 6. Follow up | Quote your complaint number on every follow-up. Keep a folder (paper + scanned copies) of everything you submitted. |
| 7. Report money moved through wallets/banks | Report fraud to the receiving institution's helpline the same day β early reporting can freeze funds before withdrawal. |
| 8. Report the platform too | Use "report/scam" buttons on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube β it takes down the trap for the next victim. |
π Evidence folder checklist
- CNIC copy (front & back)
- Screenshots of the scam (ads, chats, profiles, links)
- Transaction receipts with dates, amounts, receiver numbers/IBANs
- Complaint number + copies of everything submitted
- Log of every call: date, time, name, department
Never pay anyone to "speed up" your complaint. NCCIA complaints are free. Anyone demanding money to move your case β inside or outside an office β is a second scam. Verify all helpline numbers and URLs on the official website before sharing details.
