🎯 Problem Statement

Junior security analysts needed a free, simple network scanner that did not require buying Nessus.

🛠️ What I Built

A Python tool using nmap and scapy that scans a subnet, fingerprints devices, flags open risky ports, and exports an HTML report with remediation tips.

🔥 Challenges I Faced

Handling scan timeouts on large subnets and presenting results readably.

💡 What I Learned

Async scanning, OS fingerprinting heuristics, and templating professional reports.

🚀 Future Improvements

CVE enrichment via NVD API, scheduled scanning, and SIEM export.

A working network scanner with port detection and a risk summary dashboard is a strong security project. The results are clearly presented and the scan scheduling is a practical addition.

Solid scanner with good reporting. Risk severity classification is helpful. A clearer explanation of each finding for non-security users would broaden its usefulness.
